Aug 29, 2024

Moscow [Russia], August 29: Rostov Governor Vasily Golubev announced yesterday that a fuel depot in Kamensky district caught fire after an attack by an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV).
According to TASS, the official said there were no casualties in the incident and that efforts were being made to extinguish the fire. Mr. Golubev said that four UAVs were shot down in Rostov in the early hours of the same day. On August 18, a large oil depot in the town of Proletarsk in Rostov caught fire after a drone attack. Russian officials said that the debris of the UAV fell and set dozens of oil tanks on fire. Authorities had to declare a state of emergency and as of August 27, the fire had not been extinguished.
Also yesterday, Kirov Governor Alexander Sokolov said a UAV attacked an oil product storage tank in the town of Kotelnich. Mr. Sokolov did not specify whether the attack caused casualties or a fire. Kotelnich is nearly 700 km east of Moscow. Also yesterday morning, Russia's Federal Air Transport Agency temporarily suspended all flights at two airports, Kazan and Nizhnekamsk, in the Republic of Tatarstan (Russia), to ensure flight safety. Authorities did not specify the reason, but some media channels said the flight suspension was due to concerns about UAV attacks. According to the Russian Defense Ministry , air defense units destroyed 12 UAVs launched by Ukraine overnight, targeting Rostov and Voronezh provinces.
Ukraine has not commented on the above accusation. Meanwhile, The Kyiv Independent quoted Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov on August 27 as saying that since the beginning of the year, Kyiv has invested 7 billion USD in the domestic defense industry, focusing on UAV systems, robots, and electronic warfare .
